Chapter 21
So we have a bunch of flipbook pages again to start off the chapter - seventeen of them, to be exact. This time it's a super cool zoom-out to outer space, showing us the eponymous giant meteor hurtling towards the planet.

Off to a strong start. Here's the gif version:
Cool. Here's the volume version, which does a fine job of emulating the same idea in fewer pages:

After that, we've got yet another set of flipbook pages for Genos activating his Arms Mode - this time it's only eight pages, but that's still pretty impressive. And we're just getting started.
Here's the gif:
And the volume version. It emulates it pretty simply, just like boom in one double-page spread. It reuses most of the pages from the flipbook animation, just shrunken down into panels instead:
Moving on, we have yet another flipbook animation, this time featuring Metal Knight flying onto the scene and clocking in at twenty-one pages. Not only that, but it's in full color! Seriously, Murata was just flexing on us when he made this chapter.

I swear, Murata is not human. Here's the gif:
Why did Murata feel the need to make Metal Knight's arrival the coolest thing ever? No clue.
The volume version definitely had to cut this scene down, to the surprise of no one. The results look great, honestly; like, this is just what a normal mangaka would draw for this scene. And of course, they couldn't keep it color, since most manga (that I'm aware of) are only printed in black and white.
So the rest of the chapter is the same (besides color) until the very end. We get yet another bundle of flipbook animation pages when Saitama punches the giant meteor to smithereens - this time it's eight pages. As usual, starting with the original release first:
You know the drill:
Volume version actually sticks to this one quite faithfully. Not a whole lot is changed; it's probably one of the flipbook animations that stayed the most intact for the publishing process.
And the last flipbook animation for this chapter is of Saitama landing back on the ground, with a chill five pages to go:
I love you Saitama.
Here's the volume version; basically gets the same effect with fewer pages:

And that's that for Chapter 21! My goodness, Murata really went hard on this volume - lots of flipbook animations and full color scenes that unfortunately couldn't make it into print. I think the volume does a fine job of conveying the same story though; narrative and atmosphere-wise it's the same. I do miss seeing that gorgeously-colored Metal Knight drone though.
What's that you say? There are still some more chapters in this volume? Very well, if you insist.
Chapter 22
Ah yes, back into the little details again. For example, Saitama forgot a shirt in a couple panels! That got fixed right away in the volume.
Speaking of tanktops, Tanktop Black Hole chewing out Saitama in front of everybody has been redrawn. Not sure why, but it does look quite a bit better.
Chapter 23
This chapter's comparisons are mostly because of the A-Class hero Stinger, whose design was revised after this chapter. He wore a funny little jacket or shirt over his outfit for Chapter 23 only, but it's been removed completely in the volume release. The bamboo shoot's shape is also changed, but I think it goes back to its original design in later chapters.
I won't include every single panel with Stinger in it because this post is long enough already, but take a look and trust me that he doesn't have that shirt any other volume panels:

They changed how Genos is drying dishes for this one top panel. I guess they thought his face looked a little too chill and out-of-character, which I can understand.
Original | Volume 4 |
Stinger's Gigantic Drill Stinger attack is a little bit shorter in the volume, and he finishes off the rest of the invading Seafolk a little faster. Totally understandable change - Stinger's cool, but he's not exactly crucial to the advancement of the plot.
Here's the longer original version first:
And here's the much-shorter volume version:
And that's that! Wow, Chapter 21 sure was packed with changes. The next volume is a little more subtle in its differences.
